TETFund Injects N8.18 Billion into Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Infrastructure Since 2011

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund has directed N8.18 billion toward infrastructural development at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic in Owo, Ondo State, since 2011. Officials inaugurated five major projects worth over N1.7 billion during the institution's combined 12th to 23rd Convocation Ceremonies. This funding underscores federal efforts to bolster public polytechnics amid persistent infrastructure deficits.

Extent of Financial Interventions

Rufus Giwa Polytechnic has drawn down N5.57 billion from the total allocation, with N2.61 billion earmarked for projects still underway. TETFund Executive Secretary Sonny Echono, speaking through Director of Monitoring and Evaluation Arch. Babatunde Olajide, highlighted this progress at the event. Such interventions address chronic underfunding in Nigeria's tertiary sector, where polytechnics often lag behind universities in facilities.

Newly Unveiled Facilities

The commissioned structures comprise the Faculty of Applied Sciences building, Faculty of Engineering Technology building, a 250-seater twin lecture theatre, and academic staff offices fully constructed and furnished. These additions, valued above N1.7 billion, expand teaching and research capacities. Echono praised the polytechnic for delivering all projects to specification despite economic headwinds, urging sustained maintenance to maximize longevity.

Acting Rector Olorunwa Adegun affirmed the institution's record of accountability in managing funds, crediting TETFund for driving growth since it joined the scheme. He requested priority for 2026 special interventions to build a modern health centre and student hostels.
